Welcoming 2025: A Year for Fulfillment Over Achievement
As year 2025 slipped past the stroke of midnight, I toasted its arrival by pouring myself a glass of Bailey’s Irish Creme over ice. And so it begins, with 365 blank pages to fill with life’s adventures. There’s something magical about that moment—the promise of a fresh start, unmarked days waiting to be filled.
This year, my New Year’s resolution feels a bit different than years gone by. In the past, I’d focus on achievements—goals to check off, milestones to reach, races to run, accolades to earn. But, as I reflect on what truly matters at this point in my seasoned life….I feel a gentle shift. 2025, for me, isn’t about striving to be; it’s about being.

An old Japanese Police interpreter I worked with while stationed abroad, had a word to describe the sense of being it was: Ikigai (pronounced ee-kee-guy). It’s the idea of aligning your life with purpose and meaning, a shift from chasing material success to pursuing contentment. It’s shifting from the young man who trades his hunger for the tangible for the seasoned man who enjoys the richness of things without a physical form….the intangible.
Here’s to writing a beautiful story on the blank pages of 2025—one rich with purpose and happiness. Cheers to Ikigai and a year of living meaningfully!
How will you approach this new year?
Happy New Year! 🎉
Beautiful.
