Every now and then, they discover the home that has been waiting for them all along.

Perhaps that’s what happened to John and Diane Marrazzo.

Their new home sits on West Island in Fairhaven, a place reached by crossing the narrow causeway where Goulart Memorial Drive separates the quiet waters of Nasketucket Bay from the open waters of Buzzards Bay. On many days, one side is calm as glass while the other is alive with wind and waves.

I’ve always thought that stretch of road says something about life.

We all travel between calm and storm. Sometimes they exist side by side, separated by only a few feet… and a little perspective.

Their cottage carries a name with its own story—Shell Cottage.

Readers of Harry Potter may remember it as a refuge by the sea. A place where weary travelers found safety, healing, friendship, and hope before continuing their journey.

Maybe every family deserves a Shell Cottage.

Not necessarily beside the ocean, but somewhere that reminds us to exhale. A place where the people we love gather around a table, where laughter is louder than worry, and where life’s burdens seem just a little lighter.

Then there is the shell itself.

When an oyster is troubled by a tiny grain of sand, it doesn’t try to escape it. It patiently transforms the irritation into something beautiful—a pearl.

Perhaps that’s what every good home quietly does.

It doesn’t promise a life without problems.

It simply gives us a place where yesterday’s storms can slowly become tomorrow’s pearls.

May every trip across the causeway remind John and Diane that calm and storm are both part of life’s journey… and may Shell Cottage always be the place where the storms of yesterday become the pearls of tomorrow.
