Legends without oars….

At Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury Massachusetts, history flows as deep as the Merrimack River. The tide rises and falls beneath the dockside embrace. On this crisp morning, three painted dories rest on the weathered dock, their stories etched into their wooden frames.

Each its own personality, its own life, was as much alike as different. Sharing a love for the water and the stories it told. Whether by racing, fishing, or quiet journeys along the coast, they carried with them the spirit of the captains who rowed them, and in return, they gave back their soul to the Mighty Merrimack.

Three dories rest, their work now done,

Basking beneath the autumn sun.

The blue one sang with a fisherman bold,

The maroon raced fast, with stories untold.

The youngest waits, with fresh painted trim,

Waiting still the river to swim.

They laugh, they creak, they dream of the sea,

Sit three boats on a dock, but forever free.
