Just write something..

I’ve been here before…. writers block …
I keep writing but nothing seems to get published…
The draft bucket if full of half baked blather.  I need to get out of the house, get on the bike and get a cup of coffee.

Ok,  I am now sheltered away with all the other coffeehouse vagrants in a corner of the Commune Community Cafe.  This is where all the caffeine sipping zombies who are feeling disconnected come to reconnect with their muse.  Coincidently, the song ” I Love You” from the Zombies is looping through my brain…..I love you ….I love you…. I love you…. yes I do…..But the words won’t come and I don’t know what to say.  The lyrics are playing like endless film reels in my mind…. Good Strong Coffee is the Antidote…

If you were here in the coffee shop with me I’d buy you a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin. As we talked, schools of untold stories would swim through my head like fish ….I’d try to hook one or more …..hoping the best ones don’t get away.

To me stories are like imaginary friends…  when you are feeling blocked it’s like those friends won’t speak to you…  I keep looking for the reasons for the silence…  and wonder …did I do or say something wrong?  No….. I think the answer is…  I haven’t written anything…if you don’t order a pizza for delivery you won’t get a pizza delivered.

I’ve been waiting for inspiration…and it hasn’t come… people who love to write…write… the inspiration comes as part of the creative process…. You just have to look and think about the simplest things to see ideas…  take this bench as an example.

When I look, I see that its empty….. but I also see what it could look like if it were not.  I see that there is plenty of room on this bench for both you and I to sit at either end…..but I can see that love and or friendship makes us want to sit in the middle together.

…. I think I hear my muse calling now…she’s back…. and she asked that I shut off that stupid Zombies song…  thanks for sitting in the middle with me.

    1. Diane, Thank you so much for taking the time to read my ramblings. I owe you a big cup of coffee and a muffin for your troubles. I don’t know if you remember but the last time we visited together on the Cape many years ago you introduced me to the comfort of your local coffee house. It was during that conversation you spoke about the muffins you and John made for your business. The delicious images you painted stayed with me and I have been hooked ever since. Thank you … your friend.
