Is Elon a Tony?

The other day, I lost my cell phone at the golf range. Now, normally, this wouldn’t be cause for immediate panic, but let’s be honest—our phones are basically lifelines. Mine connects to everything: hearing aids, airlines, golf scores, email, blog posts… I might as well be missing a limb.

I did the logical thing first—searched my pockets, my golf bag, the cart, the range, the road to and from the range. Nothing. I called in reinforcements: my wife rang the phone repeatedly while I ran around like a deranged detective retracing my steps. The range officer checked lost and found. Still, no phone. At this point, I started feeling the weight of modern dependence on a tiny glass rectangle. How would I function? Was I about to embark on a forced digital detox?

Then, I remembered my mother’s patron saint, Saint Anthony, the go-to guy for finding lost things. Desperate, I invoked the time-honored chant:

“Saint Anthony, Saint Anthony, please come around, something’s lost and must be found.”

And just like that, I heard my ringtone. A miracle! I sprinted to my golf bag storage area, following the sound to a stealthy little pocket on the back of the bag—one I didn’t even know existed. Overjoyed, I answered the call.

“Hello, Anthony? Is that you?” I asked, half-expecting divine intervention.

“No, it’s me, Abby,” my wife responded. “Oh good, glad you found your phone.”

Lost things have a way of teaching us lessons—patience, persistence, and, occasionally, humility. But it got me thinking: what about the things we lose that don’t turn up so easily? You know, like… our tax dollars?

And that’s when it hit me—Elon Musk is basically our modern-day Saint Anthony. Only instead of lost phones, he’s helping us figure out where vast sums of money have mysteriously disappeared. Will he get them back? Probably not. But at least we’re learning how they went missing.

I’m heading off to North Carolina at the end of this month with a group of Marine Corps brothers to provide aid in the restoration of basic living conditions for the victims of Helene.. Other than the local churches and charities our tax dollars are not fully supporting these rural Americans….
So as the DOGE team and Musk continue their quest for financial transparency, let’s keep chanting:

“Elon, Elon, please stay around, disaster aid to Americans, is lost and must be found.”

PS… Thanks to Saints Anthony and Abby for helping find my cell….
