Recently, I’ve experienced this phenomenon firsthand. Over the last two days, I have found dimes in two significant places—one on the road while running and another on the pool deck after swimming. These moments assured me that my swim, bike, and run training plan is on the right path.

I believe these signs are from my mentor, Dave Orlowski, one of the first original Ironman triathletes. Dave was the one who pushed me beyond Sprint, Olympic, and Half-Ironman distances and into a full Ironman. He knew what it took to go the distance, and he saw my potential before I even realized it myself. Now, as I work my way back to race fitness, I feel that these dimes are his way of acknowledging my journey. He sees the long path I’m on, and in his own way, he’s reminding me to keep going.
